My Top 5 Favourite Drugstore Mascaras Under $10

1.16.2014

Im never used to be a  fan of drugstore makeup, I found the foundations weren't a great constancy, the eye shadows lacked pigmentation and the lipsticks were dry and chalky.  In the last few years the drugstore brands have certainly upped their game and now have products rivalling the top selling high end brands. One product that I have always been impressed with from the drug store brands is their Mascaras. In fact, I would go as far as saying some of the cheaper brands have mascaras that rival some of the most expensive higher end makeup brands. I'm rarely disappointed by Mascaras found at my local CVS, Target or Boots. I can pick up any mascara and 9/10 i'll like it, and with a a price tag under $10, you rarely lose out.

It was pretty hard choosing my top 5 favourites as there are SO many mascaras to choose from, but I think I've managed to find a great little collection here. I will admit that a lot of these brands are American, but thats because I prefer the drugstore brands a lot more over here. I may be wrong, but I believe Covergirl is the same brand as MaxFactor in the UK, so you should be able to find the same or similar products in Boots or Superdrug. Also Jordana Cosmetics ships internationally!

I have used this mascara for a while, and it does what it says on the tube. It gives you tones of volume and it doesn't clump up your lashes. I'm always a bit skeptical when it comes to mascaras that say they 'volumize' as the only words that come into my head are 'clumps, clumps, clumps'. Typically the wands are way too big to use and the formula can be really thick and gloopy, but with this mascara thats not the case. The wand is big enough to coat each lash, but its not too big and the formula is thick, but slightly dry, which I like as its coats the lashes perfectly and doesn't leave me with big clumps of mascara on my eye. This mascara is perfect for when you need your lashes to stand out a little more, its great for special events and parties, and works great instead of using fake lashes.

Maybelline Mascaras have always worked great for me, so it was hard choosing a favourite, but I think this one is the star out of all the brands mascaras. Its very comparable to the Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara, which was one of my favourite high end mascaras, but the Falsies seems to work slightly better for me. They both have a very similar formula and brush, which lengthens, separates and volumes my lashes, but the Falsies Mascara is a slightly drier constancy that I think works better than the Lancome. It does give my eyelashes a  bit of a 'Flasies' effect, it doesn't completely mimic the look of False Lashes, but it does a really good job of making my lashes appear thicker and longer. I love the way this makes my eyelashes look, especially when I'm need of thicker looking lashes, but I can't be bothered with the hassle of False Lashes (which is often). For $6.99, you can't go wrong with this mascara.

I couldn't say enough good words about this Mascara. I love that it does exactly what it says its supposed to do, it doesn't clump up at all. I bought this mascara after Nikki Phillippi  raved about it on her Youtube channel a few months back, and I fell in love with it the first time I used it. It does a great job of really separating my lashes and lengthening them, even though it doesn't make my lashes thicker, I can layer another mascara over the top as this works as a great base. This is definitely a mascara I will be repurchasing again and again.

Yes, you read that price correctly. This Mascara is $3 and has to be one of the best mascaras I have ever used. It lengthens my lashes, is build-able without clumping and it makes my lashes look amazing. Whenever I wear this, I get several compliments on my lashes, and I kind of wanted to keep it a secret as I love it that much, but for its price tag I had to share it with you guys. It has a dry formula, which is great for lengthening and separating, and the brush is great for coating the lashes, but not clumping them up. It lasts all day, keeps my lashes curled and is a great every day mascara. If you are in the market for a new mascara, definitely try this one out. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I had never heard of this mascara until I saw it in CVS a few years ago, and I'm surprised it hasn't got any hype within the beauty community after the success of the original great lash. This is the spin off mascara to the original Great Lash mascara, which I also liked, but this mascara is in a league of its own. It has a unique, heart shaped wand which is excellent for separating and lengthening the lashes, and the shape is great for getting those lashes right the corners of your eyes. This mascara gives my eyelashes great definition, helping them frame my eyes which I love the look of. I believe it has the same, amazing formula as the original Great Lash, but the wand helps it work wonder for your lashes.

  3. Lovely post! My favourite drugstore mascara at the moment is the Maybelline The Rocket mascara. Maybelline definitely does some darn good mascaras, although I've heard great things about L'Oreal ones too.

  4. I agree with you that drugstores really upped their game recently. I do enjoy drugstore mascaras, but I have not found one that is equivalently comparable to department store ones tough.
