The Bronzing Bases

4.12.2014

The weather outside is beautiful today, and I'm in the mood for summer.

There is nothing I love more than a bronzed base during the summer months. Using a bronzing base means I can keep my foundation light, but it looks as if my skin is glowing from within. I have chosen my top three products that give me a natural sun kissed glow. I typically use these either as a primer, or I mix them with my foundation to give me a deeper tan.

This primer is absolutely stunning.

It gives that 'Victoria Secret Angel' glow to my skin that I have been coveting for years. It is a radiance primer, so it has finely milled shimmers mixed in with the formula to give your skin a deep glow that looks absolutely stunning under foundation. As this is a pigmented product, it evens out my skin tone before foundation, which allows me to apply a light coverage. I like to use this either as a base, or I mix it in with my foundation when I apply a fake tan to deepen the shade. I like to apply a little more of this product to the highest points of my face to give my skin a little extra radiance. This primer is a little bit on the pricey side retailing at £29, but from my experience, Laura Mercier bases have worked so well on my skin and its a great little product to have in your collection. This is definitely my secret weapon for glowing skin.

I don't think I could rave enough about this illuminator. Its an illuminating fluid that has a golden base with pink and bronze undertones, so it gives you a very natural looking tan. It has a lot of shimmer in it, but don't let that put you off - it won't make you look like a disco ball, I promise! This has to be my favourite bronzing product as it gives such a natural, radiant look to the skin. For me, this works best mixed with my favourite foundation. A little bit goes a really long day with this product, it lasts for a long time so you really get your moneys worth. Chanel never seem to go wrong with their products, and this is definitely a must have product for summer.

Definitely the most budget friendly primer at £9.99, Bourjois have certainly out done themselves with this bronzing primer. Its very similar to the Soleil Tan De Chanel bronzing base, a cult favourite among beauty lovers. It has a mousse like consistency that blends nicely on the skin. I like to use this on the areas of my face that I typically like to contour before I apply foundation. At a first glance it can appear to be orange in the tub, but once applied to the skin it gives a natural, sun kissed look. From experience, I think this will work best of those who have a light to medium skin tone with more yellow undertones. Those with super fair skin, I would definitely use a light hand when applying this so it won't be to overpowering on the skin. Unlike the other two products, this has no were near as much shimmer in. It has a slight sheen to it, but this will make the product look very natural on the skin and it would be a great option for those with super oily skin.

This looks ultra natural on the skin, but remember a little bit goes a long way with this! You only need a small amount of product. I have found that the best way to apply this is with a buffing brush to make sure it has completely blended into the skin. This also smells like summer in a tub. If scents irritate you, this may be one you want to swatch before you buy, but its a very pleasant smell that doesn't linger for too long. For those of you on a budget, this is a great dupe for the Chanel Soliel De Tan bronzing base.

  2. I got a deluxe sample of the LM one from Sephora a few days ago and it looks beautiful! I am super pale right now though, so I've just been playing with a little bit of it on my cheekbones. I'm a bit afraid to apply it to my whole face just yet...maybe on a day when I'm not going out, just incase haha ;)

  6. I have Bourjois offering as a test run before splashing out on the Chanel version. I've never been too impressed by Laura Mercier's primers but I'd be interested to try the bronzing version.

  10. I love the bourjois bronzing primer too, and I can just about make it work for my medium skintone, but I'd love it if they came out with a slightly deeper tone!

  11. I've seen bronzing primers around but never really knew how to use them! I never thought they would be used under foundation, it's a great way to mute down the orange-tone of it and give you a nice glow :) Revlon make a bronzing primer too which is a more affordable option!
